Cindy Doan

UX Designer

Cindy has always been a creative soul. Whether drawing, doodling, or exploring new forms of media, creating has been a lifelong passion. Then, while doing research during her senior year of college, she discovered UX design.

As a psychology major at Grand Valley State University, she focused her education on helping people restore normalcy to their everyday lives. By creating software geared toward improving daily experiences, UX design felt like a natural extension of this. She even co-designed a fitness program as a way of teaching herself the basics of UX.

As a first-generation, Asian-American, earning a psychology degree was a major milestone. Cindy’s family immigrated to the U.S. and worked hard to make it possible. Her gratitude for the sacrifices they made is almost impossible for her to put into words.

With college behind her, she began exploring career options. While interviewing for the associate UX designer role at MichiganLabs, Cindy was immediately struck by how much the company appreciates its employees. Having worked in other settings, it was refreshing to find a place that puts a person’s mental and physical health first. As she points out, “I can come as I am and be appreciated as a whole.”

Cindy stays busy outside of work making stickers, cooking, embroidering, and crocheting. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family. Come to think of it, being creative while surrounded by a tight-knit community isn’t all that different from work.
