When Scott first began making plans for after high school, he considered the gaming industry. He even picked up a few game/level design books from the local Barnes & Noble and created some basic programs. While he enjoyed the challenge of coding games, he soon realized he wasn’t into the development lifecycle. From there, it was only a small pivot to solve more pressing challenges.
After graduating from Grand Valley State University with a degree in computer science, Scott worked as a software engineer for a logistics company. From interacting with the client to developing and testing implementation to supporting live environments, the experience solidified his desire to work in an environment with well-written, understandable, and reviewed code.
As a staff engineer with MichiganLabs, Scott has the freedom to grow professionally and personally in a fun and safe environment. Each day he can interact and learn alongside a team he truly enjoys working with. As he points out, “Not only do I work with intelligent, driven individuals all working to make products better, but I’ve also built lasting friendships beyond the workplace.”
Speaking of, when outside of work, Scott enjoys video games, listening to audio books, and tricking himself into thinking the Lions will have a winning season. He’s also a big believer in self-improvement and doing his part to help others. Just don’t ask him about potatoes. He takes a strong stance against the lovable tubers.
