Apple now approving larger apps
February 15, 2015Apple announced last week that it will be increasing the maximum app size from 2 GB to 4 GB on the App Store. The extended limit will be useful for high-quality games which need the additional space to showcase improved special effects or longer game play.
Note from Apple: The size limit of an app package submitted through iTunes Connect has increased from 2 GB to 4 GB, so you can include more media in your submission and provide a more complete, rich user experience upon installation.
The 2 GB size limit has been around since the App Store first launched on July 9, 2008. Last week’s new 4 GB limit marks the first ever size increase. The increase will also help pave the way for higher-resolution displays and the additional performance benefits with iOS 9.
Although the maximum app size has now been increased to 4 GB, Apple is still enforcing the 100 MB over the air requirement which was introduced in 2013.
